Steely is looking for a like-minded individual to join our team as a Senior Engineering Manager.

Candidates must be able to hold and maintain a security clearance, therefore U.S. citizenship is required. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performance engineering team by executing against the mission, vision, and strategy of the Technical Services Division
  • Ensure that the engineering team has the tools and resources they need to succeed
  • Work with program managers to develop requirements and execution plans, staff projects appropriately, ensure progress against plans, and guarantee timely delivery
  • Foster an organizational culture of innovation, curiosity, dedication to mission; cultivate a stimulating and collaborative work environment
  • Work with the senior leadership to achieve the business goals for revenue, retention, and growth
  • Provide expertise and guidance across diverse engineering disciplines including software development, network design, reverse engineering, embedded systems, hardware productizing, and RF communications
  • Manage team leads and their staff members by clearly defining performance expectations and providing corrective action, positive feedback, and rewards as appropriate
  • Mentor engineering staff to provide technical and professional growth opportunities
  • Solicit, evaluate, and act on feedback from individuals in the engineering organization to ensure organizational health and staff career growth
  • Evaluate and mitigate organizational gaps relating to current and future work
  • Partner with program management staff and senior leadership to understand upcoming business and create execution plans
  • Work with team leads to develop appropriate engineering and documentation processes; ensure they are followed for all engineering activities
  • Evaluate and continuously challenge efficacy and necessity of processes to ensure a lean but effective engineering organization
  • Stay current on technologies and trends to be capable of making informed suggestions and decisions to the technology roadmap

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team of technical staff and foster an innovative, collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to create a culture where employees are motivated to succeed through collaboration, clear and open communication, and transparency
  • The ability to adapt to changing circumstances, evolving priorities, and new technologies
  • The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline
  • The capability to assess risks and to develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to ensure successful execution and delivery
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience with execution of complex interdisciplinary engineering projects in a mission-focused environment
  • Ability to collaborate on development and management of a technology road-map and product portfolio
  • Location: Washington Metropolitan Area with travel to customer sites across the region
  • Potential for 10% travel beyond the Washington Metropolitan Area
